I thought it was Borland Delphi…Who is CodeGear? Embarcadero?

I only began working with Delphi in late 2005. I fortunately got my hands (well, my company paid for it) on a copy of Borland Delphi 2006. And then something happened. Borland announced they were selling off their developer tools; that meant C++ Builder, Delphi, JBuilder, etc.

Before a suitable offer was made, Borland renamed this developer tools division to CodeGear…and legally made it a wholly owned subsidiary.  About a  year and a half later (May 7th), a company named Embarcadero that primarily focused on database development tools purchased Delphi.

Embarcadero

The purchase of CodeGear by Embarcadero was highly praised by CodeGear employees themselves, as well as by those that closely follow the company and the industry.

For a more complete description of the history of Delphi, About.com has a very nice article here.
